Bass are modern fishes. They are the strong kind of specie which thrives in the warmest of the weather and they also thrive in the dirtiest and filthiest ponds. They fight harder and longer out of the water because of their size and their character as a predator in the marine life.
To be able to catch bass you have to know their traits. In knowing their trait you also know their weaknesses. Bass are stalkers in their prey so you also have to stalk them. When you go after the bass specie you have to be aware, observant as well as anticipate their actions and reactions to their environment. When I say you stalk them, I really mean stalk them. You have to be quiet and patient and you must use your senses to be accustomed to and be aware of your surroundings as well as to your prey.
And when you do get one, be prepared a long and adventurous top water fights because they are strong and bigger fishes, they can fight you as you pull them out to the water, this can be difficult but there is a technique in doing this.
Bass are ambush predators too they may hide in floating logs, a small rock pile; they can actually hide and move in to any natural habitat that is flowing on ponds. For them these little bulrushes can be used to stalk their prey.
Bass also require different gears and instrument and even techniques in catching them. For bass rods, you can use the lighter ones. And if you have been a trout stalker before you can use the gear to go after the bass, you only have to make a new fly. Use a double taper line when you don’t want to cast on to long distances.
To make a fly for bass fishing, deer hair is the ideal material for it especially for bass bugs, because you can create and trim different sizes to suit your casting and to create an impression of a prey a bass would want to kill. Do not use a dry hackle because you may find it hard to get the thing to float well on water and your bass may not go after it.
Casting bugs may be started through trial and error. After making a few casts you would know if the bug is bigger for you, so you can trim it down to a more desirable size making your casting more effective. Bass fishes are strong and hustler, so better be prepared for top water action when it does take the fly.
Practice your casting. The better you cast the more chance that a bigger fly can go to your target distance. Be patient when doing so, this is only a try. Do it again scheme until you reach and perfect the skill.
Enjoy the waters and have the fun and exhilarating action of catching a bass whether it is the smallmouth or the larger one.
