Many people spend years of their lives suffering from bruxism (teeth grinding) without realizing it. Many people have already irreparably damaged their teeth by the time it gets diagnosed. Many people who engage in teeth grinding do it mainly in their sleep. There is proof that indicates individuals whom are prone to irritability and aggravation, particularly Type A personalities, are apt to grind their teeth. These are people who tend to be impatient, easily angered and who feel frustrated if things don't go exactly as they want. More often than not, the tautness in the jaw actually takes place because they are trying to repress angry feelings. So if you find yourself grinding your teeth whenever you are stuck in traffic or sitting in a meeting that annoys you, you may fall into this category. Once you have recognized the instigator of teeth grinding, it can be remedied, on the account of it being able to be managed, at least when you are awake. It's also advantageous for your complete physical condition and well being to determine how to minimize feelings of irritability and dissatisfaction.

Many dental and gum problems are caused by teeth grinding and it does weaken your teeth.
