In the last 20 years I have consulted hundreds of health professionals, read many CVs and committed a multitude of dreadful (and luckily some very good) employing decisions for my health care business - Get Active Physiotherapy.
Here are three of the prevalent and most common mistakes that numerous Physiotherapy business owners make when searching for new team members.
Mistake Number One - We Employ Based on Technical Skill
Now this is one of the most controversial missteps- and raises much debate - in particular from the very technical clinic owners and university kinds. But, I essentially consider that we were all indoctrinated at our undergraduate courses to be so technically brilliant that we deserted any noteworthy research in the critical area of individuals skills and empathy building - just check at the number of Physiotherapists participating technical updates as opposed to those participating a "Developing folks Skills" or an "NLP" program - assuming you can even find these courses.
Hiring Mistake Number Two - We Fritter away Time on Duds
Sorry for the severe reality of this but we have to confront the fact that there are a large number of job applicants that are just not matched to our individual clinics - whether it is the overseas taught Physiotherapist without present registration, to the new graduate with no folks skills to the dormant therapist searching to work in a sports clinic - many individuals do not have a excellent concept of fact and as a consequence we spend too much time on applicants that actually are not apposite at all.
I consider your most important asset is your time as a health business owner and you ought treat it like gold.
Recruiting Mistake Number Three - We Employ too Fast
This is one of my specialities (and why I made so many errors early on in practice) - the hiring process can be so long, drawn out ,expensive and draining that often we just desire to get the position filled and will get the first vaguely qualified health practitioner that comes along - even though they are on a 3 month visa, don't have a car to get to your clinic which is not near public transport, has just got out of hospital for chronic fatigue, cant operate past 5pm and lives more than 90 minutes away.
In Physiotherapy business it is basically a fact of life that you will at all times be recruiting - so simply recognize this fact and do your best to cherish the process- it is painless to look back and giggle when you have finally filled a position with someone great - but then they resign (as their spouse has been moved to Tanzania) and the smile seems to disappear from your face as the "employment shuffle" starts all over again.
