Embroidered bird quilt is full sized bed which measures around 72 1/2 by 82 1/2 inches. This quilt is made up of 26 plain squares and 30 embroidered squares which are incorporated with each other to form a border.

Main materials required to make this quilt are white linen fabric, linen fabric with contrasting colors for border and back, transfer paper and embroidery thread. Other important materials include rotary club, embroidery hoop and square quilting ruler. First of all, cut out the thirty squares of fabric. Choose the bird patterns of your choice from the internet or make it yourself. To enlarge the bird patterns, use a photocopier. For thirty squares you have to use one bird twice.

Place linen square top with a sheet of dark transfer paper and also place it right side up. With ballpoint pen trace the lines of bird pattern, and place bird pattern on top. The paper’s ink will be transferred into fabric by the applied pressure. Make use of chain stitch to embroider all your designs. Each square should be embroidered carefully. In the embroidery hoop, secure linen square. With one strand of embroidery floss, thread your needle.

Carefully place the square quilting ruler over an embroidered square, as soon as you finish stitching. Trim each of the edges with the help of rotary cutter to a length of 121/2 inches. Repeat the same procedure with rest of the squares. Cut out 26 plane square pieces for border. Lay out a 7 columns wide and 8 rows long quilt. Arrange all birds according to your wish. There should be white border around the whole parameter. Make the vertical strips by sewing squares together. When it is done you will have 7 strips of 8. These strips should be facing towards right side and then you should press open the seams.

After that you should sew strips to each other. You should sew 2 adjacent strips to each other. First of all pin the points where horizontal seams meet to align the square corners. Sew together the one set of 3 and two sets of 2. After sewing these 2 sets to each other sew it to 3 piece set.

Next step in making embroidered bird quilt is cutting out the 5 yards of fabric across the width. With right sides facing, sew long sides together. Starting with green fabric wrong side up; carefully lay out the quilt parts. Inside each side of each square, pin a safety pin. You should pierce the pin through the quilt and green cloth backing. Trim batting carefully to the size of front piece. Remove pins after stitching along each of the square’s seams. You should top stitch all around the quilt.

In this way you can make the embroidered bird quilt. If you follow all the above steps then making a quilt can be quite easy. You can also use sewing machine for this purpose, if you want to make quilt in large amount.

You can create fully custom quilts by adding embroidery to your fabric squares. You can add names, logos, unique symbols or whatever strikes your fancy. You can make more than one and each one can be unique.
