The advancement of the telephone in modern society started with the traditional land line telephone. In the early days of this device, only the very wealthy could afford to have such a luxury in their home. Very quickly the telephone became an item that was seen in more and more homes. Today, we see the cell phone becoming the telephone of choice for younger people who do not see the need for a land line phone any longer. The features that you usually have to pay for on a land line are free on most cell phone plans. Features such as call waiting, caller ID, voice mail and even call forwarding come standard with most mobile phone plans. The features on your land line could end up costing you a great deal every month if you added the charges to your monthly bill. The fact remains that the infrastructure for land line telephones are there and they are probably not going anywhere anytime soon.
