Plastering as a career option can offer excitement and fulfillment to people who have the keen interest in manual trades. This is especially so when you enjoy working with other people while performing both indoor and outdoor tasks. Be that as it may, there are also work situations where plasterers work solo, although the main scope of work shall primarily for the strengthening and protection of the surfaces of partitions, walls and ceilings of homes and commercial buildings.

The general scope of work of plasterers is comprised by the following: Solid Plastering - This type of plastering job involves the application of wet plaster finishes on various types of surfaces for the main purpose of providing protection to partitions, ceilings and floors. Fibrous Plastering - This type of plastering job involves the application of a mixture of short fibers and plaster in order to create decorative molds and designs on the various surfaces that they are working on. Specifically, the job entails the creation of distinct designs that will include archways, columns and ceiling roses. Dry Lining - This is the aspect of the plastering job that involves working on the internal wallboard or plasterboard partitions. Specifically, the plasterer shall secure the plasterboard or wallboard by anchoring them on a metal or timber frame structure.

The plaster contractor shall use a complete set of implements and trowels to properly apply the plaster on various kinds of surfaces of partitions, walls and ceilings. When doing fibrous plastering, the plasterer will have to follow and execute the design that is created either by the interior designer or architect.

On top of their main tasks, plaster contractors are also involved in plastering projects that are needed in the small home unit upgrades to commercial structures and in the restoration and renovation of old buildings and homes.

Plasterers will also have to use the appropriate plastering tools and the right size of trowels for specific types of surfaces of walls, partitions and ceilings. They must also have the technical competency and experience in fibrous plastering for them to be able to follow the designs and plans provided for by the architect or interior artist. The technical expertise of plasterers is indispensable in both home and commercial building development and improvement projects.

The plastering tasks will require a lot of bending, reaching, standing, and lifting. Most of the work of the plaster contractor are performed on the interior part of the home or commercial buildings, although there will be instances where the task shall involve work on the finishes and decorative designs on the exterior part of the home or building. Plasterers will also be working on elevated portions of homes and buildings especially in instances where the plastering job involves the ceilings, and high partitions and walls.

Plasterers must wear the prescribed working gloves while performing their tasks. They must also use working gears to protect their mouth, nose and eyes. Plasterers will also be working under a dusty condition, thus it is imperative for them to use the appropriate gears to protect their lungs and skin.

Plastering as a career is continuously evolving and rapidly growing. The prospects for this type of career are very excellent. For those who are looking for challenge and excitement in their careers, plastering can be a most rewarding and satisfying career option.
