It's a plane, and believe it or not, it's a painting. Photorealism, one of the dominant art movements of the 1970s, has been introduced and presented at the Kansas University Art Museum. Here is where you need to be able to distinguish pigment from celluloid.

Existing pictures serves as working mediums for the artists who engage themselves in photorealism. Basically, a painter paints the image in the photograph onto a blank canvass. There was a leading aviation and aerospace attorney and his friend who came up with an exhibit for the works of 22 artists. The exhibit showcased a tremendous amount of work.

One artist, for instance, has painted his normal fare which is a horse. Riding on top of a horse is one lady and her two brothers stand in front of the horse, one is carrying his model plane. For one other artist, he decided to go with his old toys and so he positioned a car by a helicopter and then he also has a floating plane in a bathtub. It was the decision of one artist to use an aquarium floor and a small plane.

Keep in mind that these paintings were inspired by real photographs and when you look at the canvass, it looks like the photographs have been enlarged but no, they were painted. In order to enlarge their sketches for murals, Renaissance artists resorted to the use of grids and the same concept was utilized by several artists during the show.

Someone even painted an air borne fighter jet up in the clouds. Take a closer look and you will see the expertise in presenting their art works with the use of clear, precise lines and color. Vibrant colors were out of the question for an artist using antique photographs, he painted an air ship with tints.

In terms of painting a photograph, why would an artist go through all of the trouble of doing so? By using a picture as a guide, the artist loses any personal connection with the piece. Here, the artist is entitled to manipulate the material. Being able to utilize brushes and air guns to their fullest capacity is something required from photorealistic artists.

All of the exhibited artists are gifted in this field of art. The artists that are involved in such a show want to highlight precise and distinct images which are far cries from modern abstract works of art. Here, the Whitney Museum in New York made it possible for all of the followers of photorealism to unite under a show of 22 artists.

The movement lives on. An artist spends much time and effort when it comes to these pricey things. Magnificent is the word that best describes the paintings. Much care went into every piece.
