I have always enjoyed cooking especially making things like jam. I like to make my own wine, relax in the evening and have a little drink. I have sometimes found it hard to find suitable jam jars but after browsing online I found a great supplier. They have many round and hexagonal jars, just the job for me.
To keep the jam looking good and tasting fresh, metal twist-off lids are ideal. Red and white checked material “lids” blend in with the kitchen and are extremely affordable. I always label my jam jars, writing the flavour down and when the jam was made. I usually give a jar as a gift to family and friends.
Wine making has been an interest of mine for some time now. I got a taste for wine from all the meetings and parties I attended while I was employed in the advertising business. There were so many wines to choose from that I thought why not make some myself, maybe something a little different. I love a drop of elderberry wine, one of my favourite tipples.
In the beginning suitable wine bottles were hard to find until I began to search on the internet. For wine making I always use glass bottles, they allow the wine to ferment better. You can buy wine bottles with corks or screw top caps, the bottles coming in many different shapes, colours and sizes. Corks however can sometimes disintegrate so I tend to use screw top caps when bottling my wine.
Bottles and jars are everywhere you look. Cosmetics, bath salts and jam of course come in jars with liquids such as milk, fizzy drinks, beer, medicines and wine using bottles as their containers. The more jam and wine I make, the more interested I am in jars and bottles. I love the smooth glass surface and the many different shapes you can buy. Having read a lot of information on these special kinds of containers, I now know what to look for.
Let’s talk about jam again. Home-made strawberry jam is so tasty to eat especially when the fruit has been hand picked from your own garden. I have always loved cooking, I think I got the bug from my mother when I was young; she was a great cook too.
I now have a wide variety of different shaped jars and bottles as a collection. In my kitchen I have a beautiful glass unit where I proudly store them. People buy different things while on holiday, me, I always buy an unusual bottle or jar from local handicraft shops and markets.
I do have my favourites, two wonderful bottles I bought in Italy. One is a dark blue colour while the other is deep red. On a summer’s day they both beautifully reflect the sunlight and bring back memories of a fabulous holiday.
