There are many various choices of athletic shoes that someone can pick from at this time. Someone can choose the type depending on whether they play a particular sport or not. If someone plays basketball a good choice for them would have to include Nike Basketball shoes.

Phil Knight founded the company in 1964. Although the name was later changed it was initially founded as Blue Ribbon Sports. The final name of the company was picked after a dream was had that included the Greek Goddess of victory, Nike. The company is well known for it's swoosh emblem as well and came up with that shortly after the name change.

The early products were manufactured with a bottom that had Air Sole technology. This technology was comprised of little bags of pressurized gas that were in the sole. These bags would compress when the foot hit the ground then spring back to the normal size. The Air Sole was worked on by the company and an ex-aerospace engineer.

In a turning point for the company Michael Jordan was signed to endorse shoes in 1984. He had just entered the NBA from the University of North Carolina and was just beginning to make a name for himself in the NBA and in endorsing products. His shoe line, the Air Jordan's, were released the next year.

The Air Jordan line propelled Nike into the basketball spotlight. Although they were banned by the NBA due to their color scheme not matching the leagues dress code Michael wore them anyways. This further put the Air Jordan line in the spot light as the league would fine him whenever he wore them. The fines were not a big deal for either Michael or Nike because it helped keep the line in the news and the public's eye.

In 1986 Michael won the slam dunk contest and became interested in playing a bigger role in the designing of the Air Jordan line. Because of this the line started being manufactured with materials that were lighter and in a three-quarter cut shoe instead of a high top. The Air Jordan line sales elevated to all time highs as it was now not only endorsed by one of the top stars in the NBA but also partially designed by him. That extra feature helped separate the line from other products as it carried a special Michael Jordan touch to it.

After the Air Jordan line exhibited such great success many other NBA players also decided to endorse the company's products. This led to Vince Carter, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James all taking a part in the business. Many of these players also decided to lend a hand in designing their line so it would match their thoughts of what the line should look like.

Nike basketball shoes are well endorsed by top NBA players from today and the past. Any of these lines would be a good choice for someone seeking a shoe that is fashionable and effective on the court. The fact that many of the players help design their lines keeps the choices personalized for each player and different than what other companies put out.
