If you are wrestling with the thought of generating autoresponder emails, sending them out to potential clients and building your relationship with them then here is a bit of advice that may be old fashioned, but that every successful marketer will tell you still works a treat.

Get personal.

How many of you remember the days when you could walk into a store in town and be greeted with a cheerful wave and "Hey there Fred!" by the owner? Made you feel good huh? Knowing that someone knows you well enough to know your name, ask how things were going and really takes the time to listen to your reply. You can have a chat that lasts more than just the hasty "Hi" "Thanks" "Bye"

This works so well in the real world because the store owner makes it work. He knows that he has a better chance of keeping you as a customer if he makes a personal connection with you. If you are not happy with his customer service, there is a good chance that you'll do your shopping down at Al's, which is the last thing that he wants!

With Internet marketing you do not get the chance to create the same physical connection, but you can start to build a relationship with your reader by putting out autoresponder emails that are personally aimed at them.

Is there any advantage in personalising your emails?

Can you recall the first time that you received an autoresponder email with your name on it? I do, and I remember thinking at the time that it was a pretty neat feature. Of course I knew that it was automated, but I still felt obliged to keep reading because the message felt like it was directed at me personally. Somehow it was now even more up to me whether I responded or not so I had better at least consider what was on offer.

And apparently I am not alone. Research has shown that autoresponder emails that are personalized with the person's first name are opened more often, and those people are generally more receptive to the contents of the email message and even better, are more likely to respond .

Actually I got an email the other day that did not have my name on it – know where that went? Yup, straight to 'Trash'. The sender didn't even care enough about their list to address the email to anyone specific so I was sure that it wasn't going to contain anything that was going to be notably important to me.

These days autoresponder emails can be set up to address people by their first or last name – or both. In fact, there is a lot of individual information that can be added, depending on the autoresponder that you are using.

So how do you personalise your autoresponder emails?

Your autoresponder has a series of codes that it uses to put information into your emails. You simply write your message, and put the codes where you want the personalized information to appear. For instance, your message may start out with 'Hello (code for first name)! In this case, the person's first name will be inserted where that code is.

Personalizing your autoresponder emails is that effortless. You compose an email (or plug in your AffiloJetpack email sequence), use the code wherever you want the personalization, then, no matter who that one email is sent out to, their personal information will show where the codes are.

Take a look around the control panel of your autoresponder and find out what type of personalization you can add to your autoresponder emails. You may be pleasantly surprised at the improved results!
