Getting homes on rent is a major concern in most of the busy cities of the world. The overall experience either leaves one content or the opposite, feeling empty and in search of another place.

Initially, when one goes to search for a house on rent, he feels being ripped off, which is the major drawback of taking houses on rent. The landlord always demands much more than the actual value of the house; hence, it is important for the tenant to search and investigate the average rent in that particular area in order to get a better idea.

People who choose to get a house on rent are those who do not have the finances of buying their own property, or do not have enough bank balance to purchase one. While another drawback of getting a house on rent is that people have to save money every month to pay the rent of the house, which becomes quite difficult at times.

If the landlord is the type who comes in and checks the house several times a week, the tenants get annoyed at these frequent unannounced visits. The landlord, being the owner of that property, expects his house to be spick and span whenever he comes to visit, or else, the first strike might be your third strike.

Usually, when a person gets a house on rent, the landlord asks for a deposit. By law, these deposits range from a few hundred pounds to quite a few hundred pounds. A common man cannot be expected to have that much amount of money. The fact that this security deposit does not ever come back to one, is a major concern for all the tenants.

In certain situations, landlords also restrict the tenants in certain circumstances that they do not approve of. Most of the people opt for tenancy just to get away from their homes, while when landlords put conditions on them, they feel trapped once again. Conditions such as, friends not are allowed after a certain time or television is not permitted after midnight, can be quite irritating for tenants. However, they keep quiet and digest the medicine feeling being trapped.

If one is getting a house on rent for the first time, one might forget to negotiate over the price. If the price is too low, one should quickly think of the reasons for it. Maybe the place is infected with termites, or even rats for that matter.

One should never trust the landlords who say that the house is well-maintained. Only when someone starts living in the house, the place becomes a home. The landlord might get some short-term maintenance done to attract tenants; however, after a period of time, things might start falling off and might not operate properly. Mostly, a lot of plumbing work is left out by landlords, and the tenants experience wet floors and leaking taps. Tenants should get alert if the landlord does not allow them to check the house properly, prior to paying the deposit, as it means that there is something fishy about it.
