Have you experienced these options? Freelance writers are finding jobs posted online for earning money for translating, and many other opportunities-but beware! There are a small number of opportunities to actually earn mega money, especially considering how much time the writer will actually have to expend researching and editing information they find for specific topics.
I have even located websites that offer associate income, by permitting a stream of ads to be posted through a link or ad at the person’s Web site or Blog, and earning a small commission on any work that is actually awarded. The advertisement being that an affiliate can make $90 on a $1,000 project. That would be very well if there were that many $1,000 projects, but the sad truth is that there are mostly jobs advertised originating in the Middle Eastern, African, or Asian countries and often pay from two cents to less than a penny per word.
And that 9% compensation on a $30 job is a massive $2.70. Not much, huh? Do you appreciate just how much volume it would take to earn money by way of these websites?
In many situations a copywriter would be expected to agree to a job that pays only $1.50 per 500 word document. I don’t know about many of you reading this, but if a person can accurately type 60 words a minute, they could get a 500 word document completed in less than ten minutes, but that is just typing. There is also a good amount of researching and brainstorming, even if doing uncomplicated blogs and social media writing, which can definitely add 10 to 30 minutes and frequently much more, per document. So to make $100 in a single day under these circumstances, it would be necessary to work for about $6.00 per hour.
You have to laugh, too, because despite the fact that the compensation is so dirt-poor, the offers typically stress that writers are desired with excellent English, however the advertisement is almost never written in good English, let alone excellent English, so who are they kidding?
I know of fast-typing college professors who mentioned that they were able to earn some extra money from one of these types of online sources, and there might be opportunities for making some extra money here and there, but the vast majority of quality writers will promptly discard these online freelance writing opportunities as a waste, or at least a large expenditure, of their time-time that could be better spent pursuing real, good-paying opportunities, for firms, and advertising and public relations agencies who occasionally work with freelance writers and designers.
But if anyone reading this can shed some light on sources that are legitimately offering good paying opportunities to freelance writers, I would like to be made aware about them. You can use my Web site form at www.jhowardco.com to update me.
