Why do you need a safe? Better be safe, than sorry. None of us spend much time thinking about “ what if”, but perhaps we should. Protect yourself from what? Read the astounding statistics below. What do you have worth protecting? You must realize that a safe is the only place to keep any guns you may own. There is no good hiding place , so the kids will eventually find them anywhere other than locked in a safe. Or what if the burglar finds them? Besides the expense of the gun, your family’s lives could be in danger. Don’t you like to keep some cash around the house? Can you imagine your children’s social security cards disappearing, or losing all your I.D., your passport, birth certificate, or that diamond ring your grandmother left you?
Another thing to consider in deciding whether or not you want to buy a safe is natural disasters. Can you imagine being in a hurricaine, tornado, flood, or even living in the path of wild fires. After all the recent hurricaines to mention only one type of disaster, thousands of people were left with their belongings strewn all over a large area. If any of their important papers were found, many would have been damaged to the point of being unreadable. A bolted down water resistant safe would have given them a much better chance at salvaging those important papers.
Statistics show that homes are very vulnerable to burglaries and thefts. You truly should consider buying a residential safe/home safe. Look at the following statistics and you will see why you must make this decision now.
U.S. News shares some FBI stats that were posted 9 29 08. The statistics are for the year 2007. The number of property crimes were 9,843,481, with $17.6 “billion” being the amount that victims of property crimes lost. Following are some actual numbers of incidents for some cities with a population of between 200,000 400,000:
Buffalo, NY Property Burglaries 1,100 Thefts 3,091
Cincinnati, OH Property Burglaries 1,865 Thefts 3,710
St. Louis, MO Property Burglaries 2,093 Thefts 5,839
Tampa, FL Property Burglaries 1,252 Thefts 3,081
The National Fire Protection Association posted some statistics in August of 2009. The statistics are for fire loss in the United States in 2008. Direct property loss due to fire in 2008, cost a whopping $14,078,000,000 and this figure does not include the California wild fires. Then, take a look at this! A full 78 of structure fires occurred in residential property, while 22 occurred in other structures. The other structures could have been such a building as you run your small business out of. You know, that business that puts food on the table for your family, and sends your son to college. Every 61 seconds a fire occurs in a structure; and every 78 seconds in a residential structure in particular. These statistics should be very helpful in helping you decide how important it is to have a fire safe.
Don t be a statistic! Be proactive. Reactive is not good enough. There are some damages that simply cannot be corrected.
