In this era of modern medical science equipped with high tech machinery, laser precise instruments and state of the art medicines, the demand for qualified professionals is always there. This is especially true for nurses. After all, they are the backbone of the medical industry.

You may have noticed that the demand for nurses has suddenly shot up in the past couple of years. This is partially because of the ever increasing population. But one of the major reasons for this sudden surge is the fact that many nurses have reached retirement or are nearing it. Thus the demand for new nurses is always on the high.

To feed this demand, the Accelerated Nursing Programs were introduced and I must tell you, they are a very successful not only in the USA but also in many other parts of the world. These types of nursing programs usually last for a year and a half i.e. about eighteen months.

They are a great way to enter into the nursing profession because not only they cut down the time, but also give you a thorough knowledge of the subject.

Also, students who come into the field of nursing after the accelerated nursing program are many a time more valued than those who have graduated with nursing. Why you may ask?

Let me explain this to you with an example:
There are two students ‘A’ and ‘B’. ‘A’ has studied the particular subject during a period of three years, whereas ‘B’ has studied the same topic in the period of eighteen months. Whom would you prefer to teach? Obviously ‘B’!

What these programs show is that a student is capable of intense learning and is sharper and intellectually superior from his peers. This type of student is ideal for any institution, because nobody wants to recruit a slow learner.

But this is just one side of the coin. There is a not so good side to these programs too.
Look, when you are involved in studying medical science in an intensive manner over a period of eighteen months, you are bound to burn yourself out. You would be so physically and mentally exhausted that you will have to cut down on your leisure time by a huge margin.

Yes, it would require a lot of hard work, a lot of patience and the most important thing, a lot of passion. See, this is where it might go wrong; you are opting for Accelerated Nursing Programs only because you didn’t graduate with nursing. So, you just might not be that passionate and patient.

The best way to cope up in such a situation is to think about the benefits you will receive – preference over other students which is indirectly a jump start in the nursing profession.

At last I would conclude by saying that even though Accelerated Nursing Programs are of huge benefit to students, they do require a lot of hard work and patience from the student. So, if you think you are passionate enough to go through the intense eighteen month training, then by all means go ahead and join a program soon!

See you as a nurse!
