BioShock 2 is the best selling Xbox 360 game of all time, which is also available in PlayStation 3. It is
a first-person shooter game where the whole event takes place underwater, impeding player, or players’
movements. However, most gamers are agreeable to such impediment as it adds realism to the game.
Many a game reviewer has given BioShock 2 high marks for its richness of graphics and authentic dark
tones, making it something close to an underwater Dark Knight.
The premise or storyline of the game is however original which is one of the reasons why millions of
players are drawn to it. The underwater world is called Rupture, its hero Big Daddy, which is player
controlled. Code named Subject Delta, this being has gone through many tragic and painful
experiences similar to the travails of the young Darth Vader in Star Wars lore. The only difference is
that Subject Delta is the good person, has so many incarnations, and lives or dies depending on how the
player performs.
This is another plus point for BioShock 2. Players’ actions determine how the story will end, whether
Subject Delta will suffer defeat or die, or triumphs against his archrival Sofia Lamb. While mortal
enemies, the two beings share a secret story and a bloodline marked by Eleanor a Little Sister. Big
Daddy spends his time fighting Lamb’s minions, which she calls The Rupture Family. She is
relentless in her pursuit, but at a certain point, her daughter Eleanor holds the key to her death or
survival. Again, players will determine the true faith of the characters.
Thus, the role of karma is central to this game. Who lives or dies depends on the benevolent or violent
actions of the fighters. Apart from the rich texture of the environment, which can give players the
occasional shiver or goose bumps in the real sense, these combatants have access to many
unconventional weapons. Generally, the weapons are categorized into Plasmids and Tonics. While the
former pertains to telekinetic powers, the latter grants the users heightened abilities such as super speed
or brute force. Two more concepts that are important are ADAM and EVE. While the first refers to
some kind of token earned from performance or catching a Little Sister, the other one refers to some
sort of catalyst for Plasmids. There is also some so-called hacking involved where playing with
needles will earn money needed in the mini game sequence. Rupture is also riddled with vending
machines where warriors can beg, steal, or borrow ammunition.
Overall, the concept and the world of BioShock 2 is so original that it simply keeps patrons drawn or
addicted. While some of the themes have undertones to other lores out there, the vividness of treatment
and the logic of the game variables make playing it a truly enjoyable experience. Therefore, in most
people’s list, it should easily be one of the best Xbox 360 games, if not the best. In fact, Xbox 360
games would never be the same again once BioShock 2 was introduced in February 2010. It is also a
sequel that seems to be doing better than the original version.
