Choosing a pouch laminator can be a difficult task. More than likely, you haven t spent much time wondering about all the various laminators and the differences between them. Still, owning your own laminator is without a doubt a smart choice. Laminating your own documents will allow you to save up to 45 off the prices charged by most print shops for laminating services. Plus, having your own machine is both easy and convenient.
Once you have begun to shop for a laminator, you will almost certainly discover that getting a grasp on the various features of even such a seemingly simple machine can be a little daunting. In this article, we will attempt to make things a little easier for you by concentrating on just a few of the offerings of Fellowes, one of the leading manufacturers of pouch laminating machines. Here is a brief overview of four different laminating systems produced by Fellowes.
1. Fellowes Saturn SL 95: Designed for small office use, the Saturn features a nine and a half inch entry width which enables the machine to accommodate multiple document sizes, a heat up time of around five minutes, and hot lamination for 3 to 5mil laminating pouches. As you will find with nearly all of the Fellowes machines, the Saturn features what they refer to as HeatGuard technology, which ensures that the laminating machine is always cool to the touch. This is an important safety feature that will prevent accidental burns. Many laminators from other manufacturers do not offer this type of technology.
2. Fellowes Jupiter JL 125: The next step up in the Fellowes line is the Jupiter JL125, some of the Jupiter s features include an entry width of twelve and a half inches, a heat up time of four minutes, and a mechanism that reverses the motor if a pouch becomes jammed in the machine. The speed of nineteen inches per minute and maximum pouch thickness of 7mil is quite good for the price point of this laminator.
3. Fellowes Venus VL 125: Similar in many ways to the Jupiter, this is also a machine designed for larger office applications. The main differences between this laminator and the Jupiter are that the Venus has more heat settings at five plus, and the Venus can laminate pouches up to 10mil thick. The speed, width, and heat up time are the same as the Jupiter, meaning that this machine would be the better choice perhaps only if you find yourself needing to laminate thicker pouches.
4. Fellowes SPL 125: This is the king of the Fellowes line of pouch laminators. Designed for heavy duty and high volume large office or business use, the SPL 125 features an entry width of thirteen inches and a heat up time of three minutes. This laminator offers variable temperature settings (very handy for multiple projects), and the capacity to laminate documents with laminating pouches that are up to 10mil thick.
Though there are many laminators on the market, Fellowes seems to be truly making an effort to provide some features, such as the HeatGuard, that a lot of other companies don t. It also should be mentioned that the Fellowes machines come with a 2 year warranty, when the industry standard seems to be one year.
