Let’s paint a picture – you, your loved one, a couple of cocktails and a tray of tapas, and an endless summer stretching out before you. Or at least a week or two anyhow! Sound good? Well it’s just as easy to make your daydream come true as it is to imagine it! There are luxury villas all over the Mediterranean just waiting for you to pack your suitcase and head to. On arrival, slip into your swimsuit and allow yourself to sit back, relax and soak up the sun. Lounging on the private deck of your luxury villa overlooking the shimmering ocean, a warm breeze blowing into your face and the love of your life by your side – what could be more romantic than that?
The Algarve
The Algarve is a romantic’s paradise. With over 100 miles of fine sandy beaches and a year round supply of sunshine, its charming villages and inviting turquoise ocean make it an ideal year round romantic getaway. You can spend your days exploring the secluded coves and bays, perhaps picnicking on your own private beach, wandering ancient cobbled streets of tiny fishing towns and soaking up the relaxing atmosphere and intriguing history. Then in the evening return to your luxury villa for a sunset drink on the private deck, before wandering hand in hand to a local candlelit restaurant on the harbour. Bliss.
There are many places in the Algarve to choose from for your romantic luxury villa holiday. The Castelo Beach area is perfect for the sun worshippers and is home to three of the best beaches in the region Castelo, Gale and Sao Rafael. Guia is ideal if you want to enjoy the simple pleasures of eating and drinking the local version “piri piri” chicken is just right for sharing over a bottle of local wine. And if lingering romantic walks are what you envision, Olhos D agua has long stretches of deserted beaches and a wonderful marina with authentic Portuguese restaurants and quirky boutiques.
Cala D’Or
This little haven in the Mediterranean has a wide selection of white washed luxury villas dotted around the seven sandy coves that make up the resort. Cala D’Or is a little lower key than some of the other more lively resorts on Mallorca and is a wonderfully intimate destination for couples. The town has a cosy feel to it due in part to the large pedestrian area, which makes up its centre. The streets are lined with interesting boutiques and restaurants and the town tends to have sprawled outwards instead of upwards, keeping its traditional Spanish charm. In the evenings, if you can drag yourself away from the private deck of your luxury villa, take a leisurely stroll down the beach to the elegant marina for a delicious meal at one of the romantic restaurants with magical views out to sea.
Pollenca
Enchanting Pollenca has long been a favourite with lovers of romance. The picturesque harbour is set against the stunning backdrop of the Tramuntana Mountains, and the lively marina is the hub of the town. After an aperitif in your luxury villa, every evening you can join the passing parade as couples and families stroll up and down to the marina. Tiny pavement cafes and wonderfully cosy restaurants line the water’s edge, and the maze of narrow winding back streets are just waiting to be discovered. You can also visit the old town further up the hill and spend many happy hours exploring its wonderful medieval history.
