Kitchen cabinets have their own place in the kitchen. They come in different finishes and materials and vary in cost as well as benefits. Depending on the features you want and the usage pattern, you may go for a particular wood among the many available. Each of the wood has something different. It may be strength, the look, the grains or the durability to name a few. For instance if you want intricate designs and carvings on the furniture, it would make sense to opt for a soft wood which can be shaped easily. Let’s see some of the wood types and their characteristics.
Cherry kitchen cabinets are made from real wood and not synthetic materials. They are highly priced but at the same time are more durable and long lasting. They require special care but guarantee you a total value for money. Cheery kitchen cabinets are actually mid ranged cabinets. They are made from wood which have medium strength. Hence they are neither too hard nor too supple. The rich color of the cherry wood that deepens with age and light is the obvious feature of cherry wood cabinets. The only disadvantage that comes with this classy look is the problem of replacing or matching furniture after a certain period of time to match existing furniture. However, at the same time cheery wood have straight, consistent grains and are extremely smooth on the whole making it a popular choice.
Mahogany wood cabinets are another option. They give an elegant look to the space. Because of the dark and warm look, mahogany is used widely to make antique furniture. Kitchen cabinets are made widely using mahogany wood too. They are easy to shape, at the same time long lasting and sturdy.
Oak wood cabinets are also available. These are made of solid wood and are known for their strength and durability. Oak cabinets are available widely. However it may prove out to be expensive if you go for a custom design. Maple is another option available. It is especially known for its resistance to dents and scratches. It is also durable and long lasting. Maple wood is available in color tones ranging from light to medium. They can be stained while the grains are still prominent and do not get mixed up.
Pine wood is also light in color. One of the characteristics is that it has several knots making it vulnerable. This requires that the wood be selected carefully so that durability of furniture is not an issue. Birch is one of the most widely used options for making kitchen cabinets. It is inexpensive and long lasting. The light to medium toned wood with knots and burls is a popular option for kitchen cabinets. Birch, however, is not one of the smoothest woods. It has a rough and uneven surface. The positive side is that it is easy o work with and can be carved and detailed upon with ease.
To end it, I would say research is the key. In addition to knowing the woods, you need to be clear about your requirements and budget outlay. Happy Kitchen-ing.
