If your dog is pretty active, you may want to ensure they don’t cross your property. This is to keep them from causing accidents to your neighbors or even getting into an accident themselves. There are many ways to keep your dogs within an area you have set, but they are either too limiting (such as a pen or a leash) or not effective (putting up a fence). The only solution is creating an invisible pet fence.
Why an invisible pet fence?
One of the foremost reasons is the fact that your neighbors will not notice that you already set up a barrier since it cannot be seen. But before you think of too much science fiction, there is no physical barrier. The system actually uses radio signals in tandem with a receiver that detects them. If a dog wearing the receiver crosses the barrier, they will receive a warning and then get a mild static correction.
The static correction is not meant to punish the dog. Although it is meant to contain the dog, its basic purpose is to train them to stay inside an area. By proper training, it is possible to actually turn off the fences, and you can be assured that your pet will not wander anymore.
Setup Options
Currently, there are two methods in achieving an invisible pet fence. One is wired system while the other is completely wireless. In a wired system, a set of wires is placed a few inches under the ground. There will be one long wire around your property, making it look like one big simple circuit. The wire actually emits a signal that triggers the receiver in the dog’s collar.
The problem with this kind of setup is the installation. It would need a special type of equipment to dig into soft soil and even cement. Most likely, these systems are set up by professionals, making them quite pricey. The good thing, though, is that you can really create a boundary that will maximize the shape and area of your property.
Wireless Fence
An alternative to a wired system is to simply go wireless. Instead of running wires, you can choose a central location that will broadcast a signal. This creates a dome where the inside is a safe play area for your pet and a boundary zone that will trigger the receiver. The transmitters are powerful enough to be able to emit signals that can go through walls without affecting the range.
However, the basic shape of the boundary is circular since the signal comes from a single spot. That greatly reduces the play area of the dogs since most properties are rectangular. The system does make up for it by being able to adjust the boundary size from a diameter of 20 feet to a maximum of 180 feet. The transmitter is also portable, which means you can create zones while you are enjoying the outdoors or simply lounging at the beach. This is something that wired fences simply won’t be able to do.
