The other day, I was driving down the road when I noticed that there was what appeared to be a dog driving a car. I knew that this wasn t the case, and sure enough, when I looked more closely, I saw that there was a young woman behind the wheel of the car. It turns out that she had her dog sitting in her lap as she was driving.
Having been a police officer, we would pull people over for things like this because it is incredibly dangerous. While many people love their pets as if they were human beings, and even more people treat their pets as if they were people, we must remember that our safety as well as the safety of our pets should always come first. This means that when we travel with our furry friends, that we should always make sure that they are in the back of our vehicles, preferably in the trunk area of your vehicle. The reason why you should do this is because animals are often curious and will want to crawl up to where you are. If you are driving, this can be distracting. Additionally, depending on the size of your pet, he or she may be able to crawl to where your feet are engaging the vehicle, which can cause you to get into an accident.
If you have dogs, you should probably invest in one of those doggy gates for your vehicle. Doggy gates are exactly what they sound like. They install very easily into your car and usually just function to create a separate space in the trunk area of your car where your dog or dogs can hang out. It allows the dogs to be out of a crate so that they can see you as well as look out of the windows. However, it simply keeps them contained in one area of your vehicle versus allowing them free reign of your vehicle (which can be dangerous for both you and your dogs). The last thing that you want is to have your dog or dogs running around or jumping over seats in your car. This is not only distracting to you and whatever passengers you may have in your car, but it can actually also be distracting to other drivers around you as well!
If you think that you having a cat out in your car is safe, this is also the wrong way to think. If anything, having a cat out in your car is more dangerous than having a dog loose. Cats are naturally smaller than dogs and more quiet. You may not realize when your furry feline has crawled under the gas pedal of your vehicle. Creating a section in your vehicle for your pets to hang out or at least keeping them in their kennels or crates is the ideal situation for any person who wants to maintain a high level of safety in their cars. This will also get your pet more acclimated to traveling in a vehicle, because it will let them know what to expect.
