Tea is one of the worlds oldest and most beloved drinks. The act of drinking tea is one that has the ability to renew the body and revitalize the soul. Of course it has been offered that perhaps the real power of team lies not in the beverage but in the joy that can be had from the traditions and customs of brewing and drinking it.

The real joy of tea in some peoples minds is the fact that it is something that can be as unique as you are. Indeed there are hundreds of different flavors and styles of tea, but there are just as many different styles of tea pots, tea cups, tea sets, and other tea related items. In fact, it has been mentioned that the act of brewing tea and the collecting of tea related items is sometimes as beneficial to a persons soul as the soothing warm beverage is to their body.

As stated earlier the drinking of tea as a beverage goes back well over 2000 years on some cultures, and almost every culture has a tea tradition of some sort. In the midst of all that tea drinking, the implements of tea have become a symbol of the different cultures which have developed them. One of the most fundamental aspects of tea culture around the world is without a doubt the tea pot. One of the oldest and most widely recognized forms of the tea pot is the cast iron tea pot.

The main reason that cast iron is such a traditional choice for tea pots has to do with the properties of the material itself. For one thing cast iron is not only an excellent conductor of heat but also a great retainer of heat. This means that the tea pot will have your water hot enough to steep the tea faster, and once the tea is done it will stay hot a fresh longer than with any other material. Another major aspect of cast iron has to do with its durability. Traditionally items which the family rely on daily for comfort or survival need to be made of materials that are made to last. Cast iron is one such material that allows the tea pot to last for years even with daily use.

Lastly, one of the most aesthetic reason cast iron tea pots are so popular and have been for so long is the fact that they can be molded, shaped ad decorated in a wide variety of ways. Some cast iron tea pots have an outer layer of another material which adds even more flexibility to the design aspect of the pot. These layered tea pots allow for a cast iron interior with all the advantages of such, with an exterior made of copper, bronze, aluminum, porcelain or many other materials.

The real joy of cast iron tea pots in many peoples eyes however is the taste aspect. Many die hard casties as they prefer to be called, claim that the use of cast iron tea pots provides a distinctive taste layer to the tea that is brewed in one. This has never been proven, one way or another, but to those who stand by their old fashioned cast iron tea pots it is a truth that does not require proof, they believe whole heartily that the proof is in the cup.
