After industrial revolution, scientists developed numerous techniques of making processes more efficient by using various additives. Metspar is one of the beneficial additives found by them in order to make the steel industry more effective and cost effective. This metal that has calcium fluoride as its primary ingredient is utilized in the manufacture of both metal and aluminium. In both instances it is used to reduce the melting point. This makes the production process quicker by melting both iron and aluminium at lower temperatures and also it cuts down expenditure on energy as the same procedure could be completed with much less expenditure on energy.

Scientists have worked on constantly on metspar and found a technique to purify it before export. At the starting, the mineral which was colorful stones were exported as it was mined but it was quickly discovered that the export of the purified form is could cut down on costs and they developed the procedure for the purification. At current the regulations govern the quality of the exported product. It has to be minimum 85% calcium fluoride. Therefore, at present the mined product is purified before sending it to the countries where it is being used.

Metspar is not only used in metal and aluminium industry but also it is used in several others. The most important industry this mineral is being used is the production of CFC free refrigerants for the vehicle industry. Unlike the CFC refrigerants the HFC refrigerants are not dangerous to the environment. Therefore, it is an industry in which this mineral is all essential. Other uses of metspar include the manufacture of fire retardant clothes and plastics such as Teflon. The purest form of the mineral is used for the manufacture of hydrofluoric acid. In order to use it in this industry, you need to have highly purified form of it which should be at least 97% Calcium fluoride.
