It's within the sports news just now. The New England Patriots won by an extremely wide margin over the New York Jets. They're back in control of the game and at the top of the roster. It was a 45-3 victory. And given the low profile of their new recruits this year, some thing has to be said for the coach himself.
Among the new recruits of the New England Patriots for this season are Alge Crumpler, Gerard Warren and Damione Lewis.
Tight end Alge Crumpler did not always play with the New England Patriots. He was first recruited by the Atlanta Falcons during the 2001 NFL Draft. Subsequently, he had a sting with the Tennessee Titans as well as with North Carolina. While playing with the Falcons, he considerably honed his playing during his debut on the field against the Carolina Panthers. This was in 2001. In the following year he was made starter. In 2003, Crumpler was given his first Pro Bowl award for having surpassed the Falcons' record for catching passes which was established in 1980, a long way back. In fact, it can be said that when Crumpler was with the Falcons he was an asset to the team.
Crumpler joined the Tennessee Titans in 2008 and he stayed with them for two years. In that length of time, his weight increased dramatically such that he was very good at offensive blocking with the New England Patriots.
It was in 2010, Crumpler signed up with the New England Patriots and was just in time to replace the team's offensive captain, Kevin Faulk. Faulk badly injured his knee during the second week of play. He is known among his teammates as a very accommodating and professional player who is just as effective in helping his teammates learn as he is in playing football.
Gerard Warren began his career as defensive lineman with the Cleveland Browns. This was during the 2001 NFL draft. Three times in his career with the Browns he injured his knew. In 2010, after playing with the Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders, he finally signed up as a free agent with the New England Patriots. Although a dependable defensive lineman, he has not as yet won any awards. That is not to say that he is ineffective in his positions. Even if he does tend to injure himself, that may just the brought on by the effort that he puts into his game.
Damione Lewis is also a defensive lineman. He first played with the St. Louis Rams after they recruited him in 2001. For five years, he stayed with the team, and managed to improve his playing techniques. He was able to achieve career highs during those five year. These were his 16 tackles and 5 sacks. After the Rams, he next played with the Carolina Panthers until he was released from his contract in 2010 and joined the New England Patriots.
In contrast to the fact that the New England Patriots' recruits this year are very modestly chosen is their astounding 45 - 3 victory they just had over the New York Jets. Is it the way they train their men, the way they teach them to coordinate with the rest or is it sheer determination to win? As of now, the New England Patriots are on the top of the League. Will the New England Patriots be able to maintain their leadership for the next season which is just around the corner?
