Video game sure got a bad wrap lately with countless adults claiming its "bad" for kids to play game. Although there sure are some games that are not conducive to healthy development, it really is just a small percentage of games that are bad. Obviously playing games 12 hours a day is not good for you, but playing football 12 hours a day is just as bad for you. Balance is the key for healthy development regardless of what it is. In reality, console games make for great gifts and offers kids a fantastic range of entertainment and even education.
Any parent will tell you that consistently buying new toys can get very expensive and keeping kids entertained is a real challenge. With game consoles its a very different story though. Not only is it very versatile but a single console can be enough to entertain all your kids. Its as simple as popping in a new game and they are entertained all over again.
With the Nintendo DSi's and Sony PSP its even more versatile because they are so mobile. Its a great way to keep kids entertained for long drives or on flights. Games can be swapped very quickly and they are relatively inexpensive. The Nintendo DSi is also know for its great range of educational games and you can easily find games for kids of any age.
With the latest gaming technology, its no longer breeding a generation of coach potatoes as many parents feared. Nintendo's Wii has a great range of interactive games that actually encourage physical movement and its a great way to keep kids active while they are having fun.
A gaming console is an investment but if you compare it to the price of 3 or 4 other toys then its really not a big deal. If you consider the fact that a console can last you for 3 to 5 years then its a great investment for any family with kids. Before you know it you will join in with your kids and like Monopoly in the olden days, its really a lot of fun for the whole family.
In many ways, a console game is the gift that keeps giving. With so many new games to choose from, every new game is like a new toy. On top of this new accessories are coming out all the time to make the games even more interesting and even more interactive. There is never a dull moment with a console in the house and the best part is that it rarely gathers dust like all those other rubbish toys.
