Shearer Painting’s first sales rep for Rodda Paint was Scotty Johnston in 1991. John Shearer’s college roommate at the University of Washington was Adam Havens whose Father Tom Braden is the President of Rodda Paint. Adam Havens is currently an outside sales rep for Rodda Paint in Portland. Over the last twenty years Rodda paint and Shearer Painting have had a good partnership; Rodda has excellent sales rep’s and many local stores in addition to their coatings designed for Northwest weather conditions.

History of Rodda Paint: Rodda Paint started from humble beginnings in 1930 at Rasmussen Paint Company in Portland, Oregon. Art Rodda, the Superintendent, and Morey Braden, a factory worker, met there. Soon after, Rasmussen combined with two other painting companies and became General Paint Co. In 1932, Rodda decided to leave his job and start his own company with Chet Peterson, called Peterson/Rodda Paint Co. Braden, ever the faithful friend, left and follow Rodda. Peterson sold his part of the company to Rodda in 1934, and Rodda Paint Company finally got its singular name.

Business boomed during wartime for Rodda Paint â€" especially after they acquired Fisher Price and CDM Paint.

Perhaps it was because business was so great â€" or maybe Rodda was just a great friend â€" but either way, Rodda didn’t give Braden a paycheck. Instead, he told Braden to “take what he needed.” And when Braden decided he wanted to buy a house for his family and came to Rodda again to get a paycheck, Rodda in lieu gave Braden half of the company; Braden became Vice President of Rodda Paint.

Rodda continued on its wave of good fortune. In 1980, a new factory opened, tripling Rodda’s production. Because of this, they were able to expand into Seattle.

Customers rave that Rodda “has a friendly small business feel.” One customer even said that “this is the place where the guys in white overalls get their supplies. It isn’t the sort of place that housewives spend hours browsing through a zillion different shades of off-white color chips… they carry the quality products that help the pros make a living.”

In conclusion, Rodda’s “management team has 1,378 years of combined experience, 818 years of it at Rodda Paint.” With a history that long, Rodda Paint is clearly one of the leaders of the proverbial paint pack.
