Cartoon drawing can be really amusing. Cartoon figure drawing is most rewarding among various streams of cartoon drawing. It involves a longer learning curve. But at the same time it is lot more lucrative out of all branches of cartoon art .
As I have already pointed out that cartoon figure drawing takes more skill because apart from drawing structure you need to tell a story through it. Your resposibility is lot more here as you have to communicate the mental condition, physical well being and even deep rooted personality traihts of the character through the lines of your pencil.
If you are creating the character as a part of a comic story then you can use speech bubbles and thought bubbles to convey these things as you see fit. For a comic artist the challenge comes from different angle as you have to take care to see that the verbal story matches pictorial story exactly.
Suppose, in your comic story, the character is joyous, now if you communicate that state of mind through bubble then in your drawing work the character needs to look like he or she is really happy and enjoying a good time.
So the bottom line is if are in or want to get into character drawing, specially into drawing human like characters then keep in mind ability to draw human like biped is half of the work. One of your top priority should be narrating the story, and all your individual tasks should be having that as an ultimate goal.
I know this may sound like impossible task to the beginners but these can easily be mastered if know the techniques and invest time to practice the application of those.
