When the person you love leaves, you are left wondering "how to get over a heartbreak". It is not as easy as your family and friends may think to get over a heartbreak. After your ex leaves, you may experience many different emotions. These emotions are actually part of the mourning process.
Unlike the mourning process you would experience after a death your ex is still around to see and talk to making it a little but harder to accept if you still love them. You have to accept the fact that they just do not want to be with you any longer. This is something that you have to deal with in order to find the answer to "how to get over a heartbreak".
The first thing that you may experience is denial. You can deny the fact that it is over between the two of you but eventually you are going to have to accept. This part takes time to get over. There is not much anybody can do for you during this process.
Work on realizing that your ex is not coming back. Quit taking your ex's calls or quit calling them. It is over for a reason. No matter what happens you are going to have to work on your emotions before anything else.
After denial you may experience anger. You will be angry with your ex and yourself. While you are angry you may take your anger out on anybody that is trying to help you. Keep in mind that your friends and family are only trying to help you get over a heartbreak.
Bargaining or realization can come before or after the anger. You may try to bargain with your ex to get back with them. You will then realize that it really is over. At this point you may get angry or you may move on to depression.
During realization you should go through your ex's things and get rid of them. You can take them to a neutral location and drop them off. You want to go through your ex's things with a clear head so try not to do this while you are angry. You can always have a burning ceremony and burn your ex's things or give them to charity if you will not give them back. Make sure that this is the logical choice.
Depression is the part of getting over a heartbreak that you feel like you can not go on and you may cry or want to stay isolated. Staying isolated during the process of getting over a heartbreak is not a good thing. You should spend some time with family and friends. Talk to them express your feelings and cry on your best friends shoulder. Try not to stay isolated for too long.
After you move through these stages you will be able to accept the relationship has ended. Acceptance is where you are ready to move on with your life. There is no set time frame for how long any of the mourning stages will last. They may come and go very quickly. But you may be looking for an answer to "how do you get over a heartbreak" for a while.
