It's so common to see people complaining about their business card. Some claim that it's not effective enough and others complain it's not getting them any customer.

Okay, so your card is a flop. Perhaps it's a cheap card you got from your local printer way back when you were new in business. Perhaps it's one of masterpieces back when you were completely clueless of how to go about business card design. Or maybe you were too tired when you designed your card that it ended up that way. And until now you are still wondering where you went wrong.

But don't worry. You can still do something about it. There are a lot of ways you can do to add flavor and appeal to your business cards. In fact, some of them you can do free of charge. Now, isn't that great?

Ideally, the goal of your card is to encourage people to use it and not keep in hidden in their file or worse throw it in the trash. Among the common reasons people keep and use a business card is (1) they use it as a contact card to their customer, friend, or associate, (2) they pass it on to others, and (3) they find something interesting or useful in the card.

If your card is able to achieve even just one of these reasons, you can be sure to get the results that you want right now.

So, how do you make your card keep worthy?

Of course, you need to start with the basics. When people look at your card, they have to immediately know what you do and what you can offer to them. This would require you to put your contact details in your business card templates (your name, business name, address, phone number, fax number, and email address). After that, you need to make sure that you create a good and attractive design.

Granted you were able to do that, here are tactics to make sure people keep your card:

1. If you particularly left the back of your card blank, consider writing a discount on it, perhaps a 5% or 10% discount, sign it, and tell your customer to bring it when they visit your store. This will surely make your customer feel valued.

2. You can also write your personal number at back. Tell the person that you specifically gave it to him so he shouldn't share it to others. This would make your customer feel a preferred customer.

3. You can put other valuable information at the back of your card. This can include a map to your location, a list of your top products, a list of emergency phone numbers, a calendar, and perhaps a conversion table. The goal here is to put attention-grabbing and valuable information that your customers would want to keep with them. This effectively gives them a reason to hold on to your card.

4. Consider giving a referral incentive. For every person your existing customers can bring to your business, they get a reward for it. It can be in the form of cash, discount, or a free item. Just ask them to write their name at the back of the card they will give to people they know, so you would keep track of the referrals they have made.
