With modern tools, computers are like cars. They're like cars because only some people really understand how they work and how to fix them. Computer viruses are a good example of this as many individuals don't fully understand them. Contrary goes completely wrong using their computer they must have a virus. This information is likely to check out some of the biggest myths there are with regards to viruses.

The very first myth that a lot of people appear to have is that if their computer has stopped working it should have a virus onto it. Although this certainly could be true, it's not true in all cases. The reason for this is simple. Viruses require a working computer to continue to spread. If the computer doesn't work then your viruses can't spread.

The following myth is that if an individual has some anti-virus software, then they are protected from viruses. This seriously isn't the case. The reason for this really is that there are always new viruses being made and if you do not constantly improve your software then you are getting infected. Make sure to keep your software current.

Some people believe that viruses can harm the hardware. This again is false typically. It goes back to using a working computer. The virus wants some type of computer that is running. A defunct computer doesn't benefit anyone. Not to mention it's far easier to break software than hardware, why choose the harder route?

Some fear that pictures and data files hide viruses. This isn't the case. The reason behind this is that computer pictures are data files and they need certain programs to become read. The majority of the viruses today hide inside applications not the information files. This is because data files aren't executable (which is essential for herpes to operate).

I don't know how that one started but some conspiracy theorists believe that the anti-viral software companies are the type that create the viruses. They believe they do this to enable them to earn more money from their clients. This couldn't be further from the truth. These companies base their reputations on being the good guys and even the least hint of these doing something like this could result in the business go under. They've their hands full targeting the viruses that others make so that they do not have the time to make themselves.
