What do you do when God sends you an invitation? Norm Grant, author of You Want Me to.What? Risking Life Change to Answer God's Call received an invitation from God that looked something like this:
To: Insert your name here.
What is it: Get-together to discover your chosen destiny.
When is it: Right here.right now.
Where is it: Starts in a room on Straight Street.
How do you get there: Take my son's hand and trust me..I'll show you the way.
Why: I chose to create you and I've called you to great things.
From: Your Heavenly Father
Please R.S.V.P. A.S.A.P.
Grant asks us: How would you respond?
He lays out four alternative responses: the first, rejection, resulting in being "lonely, bitter, and contentiously unhappy." The second is the group who respond with reluctance, inching their way towards God, but never reaching him. The third group reaches the room described on Straight Street, but are frozen by the pain, shock, and fear, never actualizing their potential or experiencing freedom or healing by not fully trusting or giving themselves over to God. The fourth group reaches the room,
learns, giving God full trust and faith, and being filled with a sense of joy, pride, and a mission to help humankind by spreading the word. Which group would you belong to?
Norm Grant belonged to the fourth group, replacing the emptiness in his life of financial success and the drone of daily life with the fullness of His word and the Holy Spirit. He received the invitation, accepted the call, went to the room, and became a pastor, speaker, and author, touching lives all over the world by spreading His word. Grant inspires people all over the world with intense rhetoric, spreading His message through both written and spoken word. Reading You Want Me to. What?
Risking Life Change to Answer God's Call is our opportunity to examine the invitation from God we received a long time ago, maybe shuffling it into a filing cabinet, our dresser drawer, or storage unit. He inspires us to find the invitation, dust it off, and become a member of the fourth group; God has given us all the invitation, now will we accept it?
