In the film industry babies can only be used for minutes at a time when filming. This means that if there is to be a lot of filming then more than one child needs to be on set (as well as a carer) and these child also need to be paid for their time. The cost can be quite large depending on the filming.
Using reborn baby dolls to take the place of real babies would keep filming going, cut back on the people on the set and be cheaper for the production. A reborn artist would be able to make more than one doll with the same features but different expressions to take the place of a real baby.
A reborn doll feels and looks so much like a real bay that there is no problem for an actor to substitute one for the other.
