Have you just been notified that your auto insurance has been cancelled due to two minor at-fault accidents totalling less than $2,000 - I pay more than that in annual premiums, very expensive rip off premiums. However, I know of exact examples where this has occurred. This is now becoming common practice in auto insurance circles from personal anecdotes friends, and my network of insurance industry friends are telling me the same thing. If the insurer can not make a lot of money off you and over charge you, they may just drop you as a customer. If you have gone through something similar, in such circumstances you may now have been placed in a high-risk category where you will be receiving quotes for $8,000 per year. How or why do car insurance companies get away with this?In my opinion this is unacceptable - I, like many other local residents, live pay cheque to pay cheque. What is the point of having insurance when insurance companies can charge exorbitantly, or cancel your account over nothing, or any unfair reason at all without any real justification? Are they only in existence to make a profit? Why is government doing nothing to stop this obvious rip-off?Of course they are all capitalist companies, with the principle purpose of making money for their owners, directors and shareholders, but where do they draw the line of making profits over delivering a reasonably priced and fair service?Massive premium hikes means insuring a car can be out of your price range, and any accident could put you, or at least your car, out of business.I wonder how much new business a smart insurance company would attract if it did not increase its auto rates? It may just attract enough disgruntled clients from other companies that did to more than offset the extra money insurance companies say they need. The more insurance companies start to rip off or scam their customers, the more disgruntled they become. If the treatment you are facing seems severely unjust you are within your right to contact a local government body that keeps business practice fair such as the Better Business Bureau. We as the consumers have the power, and if you feel you are getting ripped off or being treated unfairly with your insurance policy, know that you as the buyer have the power! The power to shop around and find a better deal.
