Your wedding is the most special time of your life. You are making plans to spend the rest of your life with your best friend in life. There are many steps involved when planning a wedding, including the wedding reception.
Here are some things you need to consider when planning your wedding reception:
Wedding Reception Venues There are many places to have a wedding reception. From outdoor venues near the lake to lodges to bars! You can have a wedding reception virtually anywhere! When considering a wedding reception venue, think about how many people will be attending, and where they all will park. Make sure to contact your wedding reception venue in advance to reserve for that special day.
Picture Displays – This is always fun and keeps the guests entertained while they wait for you and your new bride or groom to arrive. Consider making up a slide show, as well.
Guest Book – Don’t forget to bring your guest book. This day can be very overwhelming, and you may forget everyone who came! It is a lot of fun to go back and look at who was there.
Arrival of Bridal Party at Reception – Will you have the entire wedding party announced or will you just have the bride and groom? Will you have anyone announced? Just make sure you know who will be announcing. This will generally be the DJ.
Guests Seating – Will you have your guests seated at specific tables or will they sit anywhere they want? If they need to sit in particular places, make sure to have place cards with their names.
Wedding Gifts – Have a gift table, as well as a place for people to put cards. Make sure gifts and cards are secure throughout the wedding.
Decorations, cakes, and centerpieces Make sure to have a special table for your wedding cake. Decide if you will be doing the traditional feeding to your bride or groom. Who will be responsible for setting up for decorations, centerpieces, etc.?
Food – Will you have it catered or will you have friends and family put together something? Will there only be snacks and cake? This will depend on what time of day your wedding will be.
Drinks – Will there be alcohol? If so, will it be a closed or open bar? It is important to have other things to drink for people, such as soda, coffee, tea or lemonade.
Photographs – Are there particular pictures you will want to be taken, such as the wedding cake and the first dance, etc. If you are having a family member do your photographs, make sure you will have a backup in case that family member is sick.
Speeches and Toasts – Choose someone you know you can trust will not embarrass you! Find out what they plan to say so you are not surprised!
Music – Will you have a live band or a DJ? Do you have specific choices for your bridal party dance or your first dance, etc.? Make sure your band or DJ has these lists prior to the reception.
Cleaning up – Have this planned out ahead of time and do not include yourself in the plans. You and your new bride or groom should be able to leave at anytime to get a head start on their new life together.
Planning a wedding reception can be a frustrating event. But with a little planning, your wedding reception will be the best one ever!
