The main point of a computer is to be able to do tasks quicker than you would otherwise be able to do them. Therefore, the speed at which your computer runs is important, and when it slows down due to errors and problems, it is something that must be resolved.
Fortunately, making your computer run faster is no great mystery, and is something that anyone can do with a little time and effort. The first steps to take are as follows...
1) Run a disk cleanup 2) Remove any programs or software that you no longer use 3) Run a hard disk defragmenter
Doing these three things won't take long at all, and you will definitely notice that your computer boots faster, and applications load more quickly, afterwards.
The next step to making your computer faster is to stop some programs from auto-starting. This can be done by clicking Start in the bottom left corner of the screen and then clicking on Run, and typing 'msconfig' at the command prompt.
You will then be shown a list of all the programs which are automatically loaded when you turn on your computer. Some will stand out as being unnecessary and these are the ones that you should target. Remember, to still let system components and your anti-virus program auto-run though.
The next step is to clean your computer registry. A registry cleaning program will remove various unused files from the system, and free up valuable hard disk space, making Windows run faster.
Next, run a full anti-spyware and anti-virus scan. There are a few free programs such as Malwarebytes and AVG free anti-virus that are very effective in doing this task.
If your computer is still slow, it might be time to reformat the hard drive, and reinstall the applications. Another option is to upgrade your hard drive, which may seem extreme, but the storage capacity of the hard disk can hinder the performance of any computer and, over time, magnetic disks also degrade.
