The Internet Protocol (IP) address 192.168.0.1 is the default IP address for some Netgear, D-Link and other home broadband routers. This Internet Protocol address is company-set, but you could always change it through the administrative console of the particular network router. Broadband routers are home network components that are used in online connections and in connecting to available networks. With a router, you do not need to install a numerous switches or a DHCP server to process data. If you were to use this IP address with more than one device, there will be network malfunction. You should also limit access to the address to protect your network. Using Network Address Translation or NAT, this router intelligently routes incoming packets from the net to the relevant device in your private network.
The greatest reason why people are using this IP address is the fact that with it, there is no need of a separate DHCP server. Another reason is the fact that there is no requirement for additional switches. With this IP address, different parts of the device are fused together. This is a private address since it falls between the 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 range. As is the case with all private Internet Protocol addresses, it is possible to pass through this address repeatedly. This means that although the address can only be assigned to 1 device, it can be designated for different networks. This means it is possible to link different computers and on top of being used in broadband routers, it can be used as the default gateway in a computer system. Default gateways are used by subnets in relying information to other subnets. This IP address is used for local area network or LAN and in internet access. In a local area network, you can share files and carry out other tasks as file sharing. When you access to the internet, you can play online games and you can stream audio and HD video. You could get an IEEE 802.11b Netgear or D-Link wireless router, an IEEE 802.11g Netgear or D-Link wireless router, or an IEEE 802.11n Netgear or D-Link wireless router.
Note that like other computer components, this IP address is subject to problems. This is the reason why you should familiarize with how to solve security breaches and how to gain access to the various controls. By typing on your Web browser and executing, you will get a pop-up box from where you should enter 'Admin' as the username and leave the password blank. Here, you get to configure the connection and more specifically, you get to configure such things as the SSID or service set identifier and to change the password. You will also be able to solve any security breach here under the DHCP and WEP settings.
You need cable internet or DSL connection plus Ethernet cables to setup Netgear or D-Link wireless routers. First, you have to attach the antennas to the routers and to place them in a central location. You should make sure that there is no metal nearby as signals do not go through metals. The distance between Netgear or D-Link wireless routers should be such that the distance between computers is equal for the best connection.
