So you are one of those who are hooked on sewing and you tend to be joined at the hip with your sewing machine and you are not very joyful because it has started giving you trouble and you cannot enjoy sewing anymore. So, what do you do since your machine isn't cooperating? Well, you can call up a sewing machine expert and have it repaired, or you can repair the sewing machine yourself. This article and/or it's resource may help you handle your sewing machine troubleshooting issue

To begin with, you need to know what all of the main sewing machine parts are. Bobbin, bobbin wonder, drive belt, foot pedal, motor or the lever, bobbin case, slide plate, throat plate and so on, are the main ones. Well, there you go. your sewing machine troubleshooting basics!

Now let's take a look at how to repair defective or worn out sewing machine parts, especially the belts. For that, you will need tweezers, a round toothpick and a small flathead screwdriver.

Step Number 1
Start off with removing the top, bottom and handwheel covers using a screw driver. Check out the condition of the sewing machine belt. If it has loosened, untighten the screws holding the motor in place. Follow that up with shifting the motor away from the handwheel, which will increase the belt's tension. In case the belt has cracked or it has damaged, you may need to call your sewing machine parts provider to get a belt. By loosening the motor mounting screws and moving the motor towards the handwheel, slip the belt over the parts and install the belt. Check the tension of the belt, if it is loose, then simply increase the tension.

Step Number 2
If there is no obvious malfunction in the machine and it is still giving some problems, then you can try oiling and cleaning the sewing machine. No offense intended, but you hardly find a brand new sewing machine needing this type of attention. For the most part, it is an item which is mostly passed on from generation to generation, a familiar concept in many families but especially in India. nevertheless, for cleaning and oiling, you have to remove the top, bottom and handwheel covers. Now, remove the plate covering the thread bobbin. Use a screwdriver, in case it is screwed in place. A thorough cleanup is what is needed next. With a pair of tweezers, pluck the garbage shreds of thread and remove any stubborn lint that you may find and clean up the crevices with a vacuum cleaner. All the moving parts and gears should be lubricated with lithium grease and sewing machine oil should be used for other sewing machine parts. The teeth on the gears are important, so use a toothpick to remove the grime and again, use a vacuum cleaner to unloose completely.
