If You Want to Pass Your Firefighter's Test You Must Prepare

Many people dream of landing a job as a firefighter. Renowned for their bravery and heroism in the face of danger, working as a firefighter sounds like the ideal job for many people.

Of course, being appointed a job as a firefighter isn't always as easy as you might think.

Know What is Involved

The firefighters entrance exam will probably be the hardest and single most important thing you will have done to date, so the key to passing the fire fighter exam is to know what is involved.

- How long does the fire fighter exam last for?
- What type of questions will be asked?
- Will the test be written, contain multiple choice questions or essay questions?

These questions might seem immaterial but once inside the classroom knowing the format and type of questions on the test paper will save you time when time is at a premium.

Preparation is The Key

Preparing for the firefighter's entrance exam is not just a matter of getting up in the morning and turning up at the exam center, before you get to the stage of sitting the exam you will need to work on the different questions and themes you are likely to encounter.

One way is to use actual mock exam papers. They are readily available on the internet and you can also find some invaluable guides available to walk you through what type of questions you will face. Another way is to ask a fire fighter who has already sat the exam. These are great preparation aids and will go a long way in helping you becoming a firefighter.

Same Themes, Different Questions

The types of questions you are likely to receive vary but all will be centered around the same themes.

- Mathematics
- Grammar
- Spelling
- Reading
- Mechanical

At this stage you won't probably won't know much about regular firefighting duties so these kinds of questions are not covered in the exam.

Another good tip is to remember not to spend too long on answering each question. If you do not know the answer straight away work on the other questions that seem more straight-forward and go back to the ones you have missed after.

You may find some tests contain "weighted questions". These are questions which will count more towards your overall score so spend more time on them and increase your score. Remember, just because you passed the firefighter exam does not necessarily mean you will become a firefighter.

Dreams Can be Shattered

Most people think the firefighters entrance exam is an aptitude test and they don't need to study. They couldn't be more wrong. If you are serious about claiming one of those coveted firefighting jobs then you will need to study, and study hard. Make sure when you sit down to take the firefighter's entrance exam a surprise doesn't await you.

Take time to prepare yourself and learn as much as you can about the type of questions you'll face before the exam and you'll find it much easier to get through.
