A Four Wheel Drive Vehicle is designed to travel over terrain that a standard car cannot. Whether that be because of the lack of traction or clearance, a four wheel drive will overcome this (in most circumstances). How often do you see a 2WD on the beach? Unless it is like concrete you will rarely see one, because they are not designed to go off road. All Wheel Drive vehicles are considerably better, but are still lacking considerably in terms of their off road ability. A true 4WD vehicle has much greater traction than a 2WD or all wheel drive vehicle.On top of this, they are designed with maximum clearance. This means that you are able to drive over uneven terrain, with rocks everywhere without doing damage to the bottom of your car. Traction is vital when it comes to driving a car, and even on road it is welcomed. An AWD vehicle like a Subaru Impreza will handle in most conditions much better than a RWD or FWD, because of the extra traction they have. In this way, a four wheel drive will handle much better than any other vehicle.For example, you can drive much faster on a gravel road in a 4WD than you can with a two wheel drive, because they have greater traction. 4WD vehicles are also designed to keep the body level, and for the chassis and suspension to move. In this way, they are unlikely to tip over and they are more comfortable to drive in. Of course, there are disadvantages of owning a 4WD, but if you use them for what they were designed for then you can't go wrong!
