By 1900 professional baseball teams had all adopted a uniform. Some had two; one for home games and a different one for the games away from home. Part of this uniform was the classically American cap that gradually became the most famous hat in the world. Professional baseball caps have a particular style that represents cool casualness anywhere in the world.

Professional baseball caps were traditionally made of merino, fine wool, but today they are made of cotton twill and cotton/polyester blends. Some are made of hemp which is environmentally friendly because in the production process, fewer toxins are leaked into the ecosystem than with cotton. Professional baseball caps are structured caps that keep their shape. Six panels are stitched together with a cloth covered button on the crown. The visor is usually curved but can also be straight. These caps look smart on men and women as well as children of all ages.

Baseball caps come in all kinds of subtle differences, changing only slightly the basic shape. For golfers there is a high domed hat. There is also the “ranger” cap with a flat top and a “railroad” style with fold up ear flaps. Another style of baseball cap is the low profile. This cap is very soft and molds to fit the head. It is made from mainly cotton, sometimes bleach washed, distressed and frayed to give the impression of an old hat. It is very comfortable, soft and can be folded into a pocket or bag without changing the shape. However, professional baseball caps are not like that. They are structured to keep their shape and look fresh. Race car teams and tennis players have their own designs that suit their sport.

Professional baseball caps not only look good on baseball players or other sportsmen but are used in the military along with certain less formal uniforms. They come in camouflage or in the colors of the military branch with rank insignias on the front. Most of the police in the US also use professional baseball caps as part of their uniforms when they do not need hard hat protection for their heads.

If you look online you can find professional baseball caps from every team in the major and minor leagues. There are also professional baseball caps available for other sports as well including basketball, soccer and football. Every major sport equipment company also offers professional baseball caps with their logo on the front. Many top players who represent those companies always wear caps with that logo. These caps are available in both structured and low profile and also in Trucker hats which are made of five panels of nylon mesh with a plastic front for the logo or advertisement. Professional baseball caps are especially constructed to keep their shape for months and still be comfortable and useful. Some are adjustable and some are fitted but all look good from the first time you put them on and stay that way.
