Johnny Ray wanted a new baseball cap so much he could taste it and his mother said he could have one. He already had three but they were all old when he got them. One was a “trucker” hat which was mainly net with a Styrofoam front with the name of the local hardware store on it. He never wore it, it was too embarrassing. Another one was a New York Yankee’s hat his older brother gave him when he got a new one. The third one was the one he usually wore which was a low profile unstructured distress, bleach washed denim hat that was comfortable and looked cool but was not his. He found it in the bleachers of the local high school. Someone left it there after a game. His problem now was what kind of new baseball cap to get since he could get a new one?
His mother said to look on the internet and pick out what he wanted. Baseball caps are not expensive so she wasn’t worried that he would spend a small fortune. He looked at everything he could fine, and there is a lot to choose from. It was hard to decide what look he wanted and what material. He saw structured caps that always look fresh and keep their shape. They look good with Army or Navy or Police on the front. They are very traditional, almost everyone had one. He could get one with a flag or speedway logo but he wasn’t sure yet. Nothing really caught his eye.
He looked at the low profile baseball caps like the one he always wore. He knew from experience the good qualities of this kind of cap. They are soft and comfortable and will scrunch into his pocket. They are made from six soft panels of cotton or cotton/polyester and come in different colors also with any logo you choose. Some of them already look old and worn even when they are new baseball caps. It’s always cool to look scruffy but he wasn’t sure if he wanted a new baseball cap that looked old.
He saw lots of different kinds of new baseball caps. “Ranger caps with flat tops in camouflage cotton and “railroad” caps with fold up ear flaps that did not look cool for someone his age. He also looked at designer caps that cost more but are often leather and have famous logos. He was considering if he wanted Spiderman or any other cartoon character on his new baseball cap or possibly a baseball or basketball team logo. It would have to be the Yankees or the Knicks or his friends wouldn’t let him into the school building!
Finally, after days of surfing the net looking at every possible new baseball cap, he made his decision. His mother was surprised. He chose a plain, no logo, structured black cap and he wore it backwards. It looked neat as well as cool. They were both happy.
