Brides and grooms, with the intention of looking special on their wedding day, only tend to over-do things; when they should try and look as natural as possible. For 'better' wedding portraits, the bridegroom should not go about trying a new, fancy haircut, or a new, fancy outfit. The bridegroom shouldn't shift to a new bow tie altogether, he should stick to the one which he has been wearing for long. If, in case, he decides to wear an old suit, he should check it in time, to see if it'll do; or perhaps of it requires any alteration.

Even the bride, she should not try on a 'fashionable' hairdo or color, for her wedding or the portrait. The bride should wear something which complements the bridegroom's attire if she is not wearing a wedding gown. A bridegroom should make sure that the boutonniere is not larger than the outer peak of his lapel if he is deciding to wear one. And if the bride chooses to use a long corsage with her outfit, she should go in for a garment with a covered shoulder, to pin it.

It is best to go with the makeup that she is completely familiar with and thus confident about. Stick to the known and avoid experiments with lipstick and blush. It is advised to apply lesser eye makeup as compared to any other day. Under the bright studio lights, the camera could make the eye makeup appear harsher than what it really is.

She should be extremely careful with the application of the blush, following a proper outline, and using a mild shade. The chin should be done by a very light color minimally. There should however be a good color, with a proper lining, for the lips. For the final finishing, a face powder comes much in handy; a light dusting on the neck, throat and the face, would do the job. One important point to remember here is that the powder has to be lighter than the blush shade.

For highlighting, the photographer's assistant may perhaps, apply a bit of make up for better pictures. A lot of assistants go with your makeup but there are a few who make suggestions for approval. There are several tricks to enhance the glow on the face and many bridegrooms make the most of it. One of these tricks is to rub on a cologne stick on facial highlights, and then use a tissue to pat it; just before the picture is taken.
