Prescribing a box turtle to fulfill a poodle's maternal instincts was one psychologist who deals with dogs. A book about understanding your dog was written by this psychologist for he takes his work seriously. Animals are individuals too and this is according to the book of this doctor who is both an associate professor of psychology at local university and associate director for research at the local zoo. In all honesty is how he expresses himself even if people sometimes assume too much.

When it comes to a young couple, he said that he knew of one owning a dog with the dog refusing entry for the husband into the bedroom. In his book, he mentioned the couple's dachshund which had a catatonic fit whenever they would fight. A lot like humans' is the body language of dogs and as he said they often develop like young children. Just like humans, dogs can tolerate closeness in different ways, according to him.

When it comes to dogs, they develop through several stages and getting one between six and eight weeks old is the best thing to do as the doctor points out. Don't bother with a puppy older than 10 weeks, unless he's been raised with a lot of people around he advises. It is necessary to see how well it interacts with other puppies before you buy a dog. Watch out for the most outgoing dog for it can be the most aggressive one.

What he will do is investigate it should you have an old scarf or a glove but see if he will agree to a game of tug of war. Discipline training for a puppy at five or six weeks is rather pointless since he will just forget it but what he needs at this time is some tender loving care not to mention a number of experiences for his environment to be enriched.

When it comes to the sensitive fear period at eight weeks, this is where he mentions how owners should be careful not to cause any undue trauma for their puppies may it be a visit to the vet. Becoming emotionally bonded to his owner will take the dog about 12 weeks and his spirit or his attachment will not be broken by discipline training. What this doctor holds is a veterinary degree and a doctorate in psychology from a London university and he recommends various breeds of dog for different people.

For instance, for a family with children in a house, he recommends a golden retriever, for a young couple, any of the terriers, for an apartment couple, a schnauzer, a Yorkshire terrier or a poodle, for an older couple, a Yorkshire terrier, pekingese or pug. According to him, the breed used to say a lot of things about the temperament of a dog but now it does not. Considering this, he puts the blame on less quality in breeding.

Sometimes, dog breeders get together and decide on changing standards of breeds and he calls them cranks. People should be responsible enough not to change standards without knowing the results, he said. Should prize dogs be named the best in the breed, what is being emphasized today is how they should first be subjected to testing. In this case, you would know that the winner was no frankenstein.
