If you had a party and served frosted foods, beer in cans, wine out of a box, no music at all, and kept the light on, the party would not be too admirable at all. The rules for clever entertaining are; Proficient food, proper drinks, and proper ambience.
Casual gatherings should even serve fresh, proficient food. Serving finger foods is a proficient idea this is because there are no utensils used so there is less of a clean up afterwards. Serve the food on trays this way there will be enough so you will not need to run back and fourth from the kitchen. You also need to enjoy your social gathering.
Keep in mind to never serve beer in cans. Wine needs to always be bought in bottles. It should not cost you an arm and a leg even though it doesn't come from a box. It is always a clever idea to have some liquor in the house anyway, just in case you have guests drop by that like to have a drink or two.
As for general feeling or mood it had three divisions music, lighting, and ornamentation. There needs to be music at every party. If there is proficient music then there might be some dancing, gatherings are always better if there is some dancing. With the lights on nobody will even think about dancing. A dimmer switch should be considered if you plan on having more then one festivity a year.
The table with the finger foods and the liquor will probably be the focal point so pretty it up with some flowers and a table cloth. If it is a theme function you are having then you need to decorate accordingly. There is no need for anything tacky, just flowing beautifications.
You should have no reason to not stop and talk with your guests. Enjoy everything that you have created and enjoy your guests.
