Everybody knows that the most beneficial foods we can take in are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These would be the foods that give people protein along with energy. They help our bodies be balanced without infusing lots of calories that we have to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Are you aware, however, that some of the foods you've been thinking are fine for your diet plan could actually be making you retain weight? They could even be keeping you from losing weight altogether! Check out a few of the ingredients that might be assisting you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

Sports Drinks may not be aiding you whatsoever. You've probably been told that if you want to help your body renew itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Most physicians recognize, however, that if your exercise session is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are loaded with sugar and calories and a massive amount of other things you don’t need like artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Try sipping some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugar in chocolate may help your muscles start to mend themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

You don't need protein shakes. Lots of people believe that having a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. When you happen to be eating an otherwise healthy diet, however, a protein shake just sends you into protein overdose. Contrary to popular opinion, protein does not get saved as muscle, it gets stored as fat. If you've already eaten your daily allotment of protein that day, your system will just save the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't nearly as healthy as you might believe that it is. You may believe that a sandwich made of whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. The truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is packed full of preservatives and about a third of your suggested daily sodium intake. This will probably be particularly harmful if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of choosing deli meat, select home grilled chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Sure these are the more expensive options but they are quite a lot healthier for you.

There are a wide range of things that we think will help us shed weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask a medical professional which food items are best for you and then eat those. If you are careful about what exactly you take in and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
