Dr Sears fish oil is manufactured by Zone Labs, which is located in Danvers, MA. The company was created as an adjunct to the popular diet books. They also sell foods, books and a variety of health supplements.

Although the eating plan has been helpful to many people, there are some critics. The American Heart Association warns that the meat allowance in the diet is a source of dangerous quantities of saturated fat. Diets high in saturated fats are correlated with an increased incidence of heart disease and stroke.

Some studies indicate that the Mediterranean diet, which contains very little red meat and lots of fish, is the healthiest for your heart. According to the Mayo Clinic, diets that include fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains are generally healthier. It’s just that the combination or proportions of certain foods in the Mediterranean Diet may make a difference in your risk of heart disease.

A 2007 study conducted in the US found that both men and women who consumed a Mediterranean style diet lowered their risk of heart disease and cancer. Sears fish oil and other brands are commonly recommended, because the omega 3 fatty acids they contain are accompanied by a reduced risk of those diseases, too.

Most people don’t get enough omega 3s in their diet. Bad dietary choices include cooking with corn oil, because it contains 40 times more omega 6s than omega 3s, and eating red meat. Lean chicken, fish, nuts and olive oil are better choices, along with large amounts of fruits and vegetables.

Some of the elements of the Mediterranean diet that are believed to be particularly healthy is the use of whole grains, rather than bleached refined flour, for breads and pasta. Instead of using butter or margarine as a spread, the bread may be dipped in olive oil. Butter and margarine contains trans fatty acids and saturated fats.

One of the goals of Sears fish oil and other brands is to correct an imbalance of omega 6s to omega 3s that is frequently found in modern diets. Omega 3 fatty acids have anti inflammatory activity. Omega 6s contribute to inflammation. Inflammation is one of the causes of cellular aging. It contributes to cancer, heart disease and degenerative diseases like arthritis.

Does Sears fish oil have a high degree of anti inflammatory activity? There is no indication that the company has ever had that kind of testing conducted. All omega 3s have some degree of anti inflammatory activity. But, there is reason to believe that the natural triglycerides have more anti inflammatory activity than the concentrates.

With all of the different brands on the market, you really need to take your time and read all about them. If you don’t, you could spend more than necessary. You could get a contaminated product; mercury being the most common contaminant. You might end up having fishy tasting burps, too. Those are caused by high levels of oxidation or spoilage.

While Sears fish oil has high standards for freshness, it could still cause those fishy tasting burps. Other brands are guaranteed to be burp free.
