Many very first time sellers have something in common -
they fail. Many of them fail again and again,
never understanding what's going wrong. They are doing
hours of research looking for an ideal item to sell,
obtain the auction setup, and wait for the bidding to
begin. Hours pass with no bids are put. Days go
by, and there continue to be no bids - or you will find really low
bids. Finally the auction ends, and it turns out to be
a total failure. Thinking about the huge number of sellers
who run eBay auctions, there are specific stuff you
should do, and particular things you must not do if you
should be successful.

Many reasons exist why auctions fail. Probably the most
common reason is that the item isn't in high
demand. This issue can be avoided by doing the
necessary research to find out which items sell
well, and which items ought to be avoided. This
research takes a considerable time - but in the end,
you will find that it is time wisely spent.

One more reason for eBay failure is pricing. Regardless of
what your reserve price is, your opening bid price
should not become more than $50 or so. This is how you
will attract potential bidders to your auction. If you
set that opening bid too high, many people won't
even follow the link to read the description for the
item. Another pricing problem is lack of research.
Before you decide to set your reserve price, you must
determine what them is actually worth, and the price
similar items have sold for in past eBay auctions.

Poorly written descriptions are another reason for
failed auctions. Poor grammar and misspelled words
drive people away. Neglecting to post a picture from the
item will even keep people from visiting your auction
page. Make sure that your description is well crafted.
This is essentially your 'sales copy.'

Shipping prices scare people from auctions if
too high. Find the lowest shipping prices
that you could find, and consider paying for the
shipping yourself if it won't cut into your profits too
much. Do not charge handling fees.

Offer great 'customer service' for all of your auctions,
and get your buyers to give you feedback. When the
items which you sell are everything that you said they
will be, and also you offer great customer service, you
can get wonderful feedback - and this
feedback can help a great deal inside your future auctions.
