The type of baby blankets that you choose to buy for your baby are important. Particularly in areas of varying climate (I.e., hot during the day then cold at night, along with extreme temperature shifts from one season to the next). There are three different kinds of baby blankets that most parents have in their baby repertoire. The first is knit blankets that are usually given as gifts from doting grandmothers. Next are multipurpose fleece, followed by lightweight cashmere blankets.

Knit Blankets

The warmth of a knit blanket will vary depending on the grade of wool used and the knitting pattern that is used while making them. They aren't necessarily the warmest blankets when compared to fleece, or as cool as cashmere on a hot day; but they make a great top layer and are usually given as gifts when the baby is born.

Fleece Blankets

Fleece baby blankets are great for both warm and cold days. The ability of fleece to equalize temperature makes them something that all parents should have for baby. They are also durable and easy to wash with the rest of your baby clothing. Fleece should be a blanket you make sure to have as they're unrivaled in their all-round comfort.

Cashmere Blankets

Cashmere is comparable to fleece in both its temperature regulating ability and durability. The main reasons that knit and fleece blankets are often preferable is the cost. Cashmere is a little more expensive and you do need to take care when washing them to retain their soft plushness. It's recommended that you either wash them by hand, or use the gentle cycle of your washing machine when cleaning them.

Which Baby Blankets Should You Choose?

Why not have a mixture of all of them? There is no right or wrong. At the very least try to have cashmere or fleece in your collection and a fashionable knit blanket for a top layer on colder days.
