Storage beds are one of the best types of kid's beds to have in their room. The reason is simple. With all the toys, clothing and school supplies your children may have in their room, organization is the key! These under the bed options really add a lot of space to a room without the need for bulky dressers or added space in closets. In addition, you can use the under the bed storage to give your kids more room to play in their room, since there is less need for dressers. Children's bedroom furniture has numerous options for these beds.

What Are Storage Beds?

Many of the best kid's furniture makers are now offering children's furniture with drawers and small cabinets under the mattresses. These are virtually platform beds in that the top mattress lies on top of a platform, rather than resting on a metal frame or a box spring. Rather than waste all of that extra space under the bed, these beds have storage areas under them. They are slightly higher than a traditional bed (though you can find shorter versions, too.) Often, these will have up to six drawers on either side of the bed, and potentially will have cabinets that open up, revealing a storage space perfect for bulky toys.

How To Teach Kids With These Storage Beds

Now that you know how beneficial these can be, why not teach your kids a few helpful tips that can help them to keep their room looking great, even when the own a lot of toys and other items? Here are some tips to help you once you purchase children's bedroom furniture like this.

1.Spend the time organizing each drawer. You may wish to place a picture or label on the outside of the drawer, too, for easy access to the items within.

2.Allow your child to make decisions about what goes were, providing them with helpful tips on how to do so. For example, with six drawers, let him decide where you puts his crayons and where his pants go. That way, he takes ownership in the organization process.

3.This bed is a great tool for teaching kids to clean up every day, too. The clean up as you go strategy is best, but even having your child spend five minutes picking up the toys in their room each day will help them learn important organization skills they can take with them throughout life.

4.Make it fun! These storage beds are a great way to teach clean up but to keep them at it, use a game, especially for younger kids. For example, for a bedtime story, give them a timer with a few minutes on it. Challenge them to clean up the room before the timer goes off, storing each of the items appropriately in the storage bed.

These are functional and beautiful, but they can also be very handy when it comes to teaching children organization.
