The dog is man’s best friend. It does a lot of things for us. First, it serves as a guard outside the house. A dog’s bark can alert a home owner of the forced entry of burglars or trespassers. Second, a dog can serve as a good friend for our family. As long as a dog is properly trained, one can expect a lot of good things from your pet in return for the love and care you give to him.

However, when the dog is untrained, he can cause problems. For one, he could break out of your property and cause harm to himself or the people around you. Dog bites, whether they have been given by a vaccinated or an non vaccinated dog, can cost you a lot of money in paying for compensation. Worse, you could end up losing your dog if local authorities order him to be “destroyed.”

Contain Your Dog

The best way then is to keep your dogs contained. If you deem it not applicable to keep the dog inside your home, then you should find ways to keep him contained inside your property.

Cages are a common solution. However, caging a dog only contributes to his feral attitudes as a dog may develop resentment and anger at being caged. Leashing not only gives a dog limited freedom but can also have the same effects as caging. Dogs contained using these methods are commonly unfriendly to people except for those who feed and own him, although in some cases, these dogs can be hostile toward their owners as well.

The most dog friendly form of containment would be using fences. Physical fences are good ways of keeping a dog inside your property. They have been so effective that electronics companies have come up with a way to keep the dog in without having to use visible structures as concrete or steel fences. This is what they call an electronic dog fence.

What Are Electronic Dog Fences?

As its name suggests, this is a device that keeps a dog in using electronic signals. It works by having a central transmitter measure the distance the dog is from the house. It does this using signals sent to a receiver collar in the dog’s neck, which also acts as a stimulator that will “discipline” the dog if he gets far away from the house. The system is totally wireless.

One advantage of this is that it is very dog friendly. The stimulator does not hurt the dog, but mildly annoys him so he’d stop and turn back. The dog ultimately will not go that far a distance after being subjected to the stimulation a lot of times, as dogs are very good at remembering such things.

Most electronic dog fences are designed to be used by dogs weighing at least 8 pounds. The transmitter can work with more than one dog and requires only the purchase of one collar for each dog that you want to be trained using the fence.
