The field of nursing attracted me for many reasons. The very first reason being, that the nurse is the front line person in taking care of others and saving lives. The nurse will in many cases such as within the hospital or homecare environment discover the patient who needs emergency attention prior to the physician. It will be as much as the nurse to respond accordingly inside the scope of the practice and hospital procedures. How come this part of nursing attract me? Well, for the reason that that this kind of responsibility is not too far off from the type of responsibility that the physician has, that is what I had hoped to become many years ago. Nurses didn't have that crucial degree of responsibility initially. Because of this, many patients died. For instance, a nurse in the past may not have known the therapeutic values of electrolytes and blood gases thereby putting the patient's health at risk. Now, in present times, the nurse must know all the pertinent lab values and act upon any change immediately, either by calling the physician or implementing standing orders.
Another aspect of nursing that's also appealing to me in succeeding as a nurse, is that the nurse uses therapeutic communication and treats the patient's reaction to real or perceived illness. This is actually the corner stone which nursing is dependant on. The holistic approach is so successful in assisting patients to heal. I am a company believer that to have an individual to be able to heal from without, they have to first heal from inside. Therefore the nurse might help clients to change and grow in a positive way rather than negative. Since all nursing is now depending on evidenced practice, it's exciting to be able to place the scientific method to use. There are now logical and provable reasons that the nurse should take a particular strategy.
I have listed some of the reasons that have attracted me to the profession of nursing.
SHORT-TERM CAREER GOALS:
My short-term career goals contain successfully passing Nursing 255, then passing the national board exam. Once this is accomplished, I really hope to be focus on a medical-surgical floor and hone my skills as a graduate nurse. I have chosen medical-surgical nursing like a starting place because this particular field can help me to develop my clinical skills.
LONG-TERM CAREER GOALS:
I really hope to become an energetic member in the profession of nursing, joining the American Nurses Association, attending seminars and lobbying for the advancement of nurses to prescribe medication independently. Hopefully within the next five years approximately I'll possess a degree as an advanced practice nurse in the field of family healthcare and be working in an emergency room.
PERSONAL GOALS:
My own goals are humble. Money hasn't been a goal, rather doing what enriches the soul. I'm thankful to my Lord which i have been given the opportunity to have made it so far. I look after my mother and help my loved ones as well as I can. I am happiest after i am helping others, and owe a large debt of gratitude to my instructors, who have given of themselves their insightful knowledge and experience to help produce competent nurses. I hope to ensure they are proud.
